Although he was snubbed by the IIHF Directorate and the media, Trey Augustine had a World Junior Championship performance to remember.
Augustine posted a sparkling .944 SV% in four games, backstopping the US team to the gold medal. More notably, Augustine led all goalies in goals saved above expected (GSAx), saving 5 more goals than expected based on the quality of shots he faced. Additionally, Augustine faced 52 shots from the home plate area (dark shaded area above the crease) and stopped 48 of them for an incredible .923 home plate SV%.
Augustine’s strong World Junior Championship performance builds on his already impressive start to the season at Michigan State where he’s posted an 11-3-2 record with a .916 SV% in 17 appearances. Digging deeper, from the 15 games available on SportContract (missing 10/7 vs. Lake Superior State and 10/13 vs. Air Force), we can see that Augustine’s saved 5.21 goals above expected and has saved more shots than expected in five of his last six appearances. A strong WJC-20 performance has him poised to close out his NCAA season on a high note.

Prashanth, I'm so glad to see you with an outlet for you to explain your thoughts in more detail - you genuinely bring something to Red Wings coverage that no one else does (despite us being quite lucky in terms of the folks working on it).
Great analysis on the WJC goalies! Based on GSAx, Augustine definitely was snubbed. On a separate note, hoping for the best for your nephew.
